MOE CS Machogu’S Special Request For All Kenyan Universities
Universities have been urged to take the lead in promoting climate-smart agriculture and long-term trade strategies for economic growth. Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, underlined the power of combining technology, science, and traditional agricultural knowledge to improve food planting, harvesting, and distribution in the country. This confluence is considered as a source of innovation that can help with food security, healthcare, housing, and technology.
Speaking at the 12th Open Day of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Machogu emphasized that such programs would provide graduates with the skills needed to conceive solutions, produce products, and provide services that promote economic and social transformation. He emphasized the significance of academic program quality, research, innovation, and technology in determining the excellence of higher education institutions.
Machogu praised JKUAT for creating a venue for stakeholders to participate, allowing institutions and the community to build stronger bonds. He stated that this platform highlights the university’s accomplishments in learning, research, innovation, and partnerships, all of which contribute to national goals.
Shadrack Mwadime, Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, stressed the need of universities harnessing research and innovation to meet climate change concerns. He urged organizations to take advantage of government assistance and form foundations to assist young innovators in bringing their inventions to market.
Prof. Victoria Ngumi, Vice Chancellor of JKUAT, stressed the critical role universities play in reinventing agricultural techniques in response to climate change. She emphasized the importance of colleges in advancing drought-resistant crops and agricultural strategies that safeguard farmers from climate-related shocks.
Collaboration among universities, stakeholders, and industry participants has the potential to increase the impact of higher education and research outcomes.
Prof. Ngumi emphasized JKUAT’s involvement in climate change and environmental sustainability programs, such as biodiversity protection and innovations such as ecologically conscious affordable housing and the transformation of domesticated fruits into beverages. These activities are in line with Vision 2030 aims, with an emphasis on science, technology, innovation, and educational development.
