TSC Newest Information on Teachers’ Salary Increase in 2023
Wage increase for TSC in 2023.In July, teachers will receive a rise. Teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will benefit from an improved benefit starting in July as a result of a recent High Court decision.
The PNP will give raises to more than 350,000 teachers and office personnel in July. This is due to the fact that the TSC has already received Shs. 9.1 billion from the National Treasury.
According to President William Ruto, the 7–10% wage increase for teachers and other public employees is intended to shield them from the challenging economic climate.
“I am aware that the SRC has recommended increasing the salaries of several different categories of public employees, including government officials.
We’ve decided to choose to enhance the pay of our teachers, police officers, military members, and government employees by 7 to 10% starting tomorrow, Ruto remarked at the KICC launch of the new e-citizen platform.
2023 TSC salary increase
The High Court’s most recent decision about Finance Bill 2023, however, is what will interest teachers about the July pay boost.
On Wednesday, High Court Judge Mugure Thande didn’t overturn the orders that put the Finance Act 2023 on hold.
The judge decided that the petitioners (Busia senator Okiya Omtatah and others) have proved that they have a case, adding that if the orders were to be lifted, the public would suffer.
The judge also told the file to be sent to Chief Justice Martha Koome, who will choose a three-judge bench to hear the case and make a decision.
Key Importance For July Teachers Payrise
This means that teachers will get their July pay with a 7% salary increase and without the 1.5% housing fund reduction that was written into the Finance Act 2023 and was supposed to start on July 1, 2023.
The most recent order from the Court says that TSC can’t take 1.5% from teachers’ paychecks for the Housing Fund.
In addition to getting a higher net pay, teachers will also be able to borrow more money when they take out check-off loans.
The president ordered the salary increase to start on July 1, so the result of the rise will show up on the July paystubs.
TSC salary increment 2023
In the first financial year, 2023-2024, teachers’ salaries will go up by 7%. In the second year, 2024-2025, their salaries will go up by 8%; in the third year, 2025-2026, by 9%; and in the last year, 2026-2027, by 10%.
Teachers Union (KNUT) Stand On Teachers Payment Increase
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has, however, protested and given a 14-day ultimatum to TSC to convene a meeting to review the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) signed in 2021.
“Earlier, TSC proposed giving teachers salaries of Sh2 billion, which is good, but the National Treasury cut it to Sh1 billion. Knut SG Collins Oyuu said, “We still want our TSC to sit down with us and reopen the way for negotiations.”
“But now that the condition on talks has been removed, we are done. We wrote a message to the TSC, and I gave them 14 days to bring us to the table so that we can start reviewing the CBA that we signed in 2021 that has nothing to do with money.
We can’t forget that this country’s economy is so bad that we have to meet again to make sure the teachers have something to eat,” he said.
