Programme Management Officer at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-apply!
Responsibilities
- collaborates with the UN Development Coordination Office, its regional offices, UNEP regional and divisional offices, and other relevant UN institutions to develop strategies and facilitate the implementation of institutional frameworks for UNEP to support the work of the UN Country Teams.
- creates plans and policies, such as UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks and Common Country Analyses, to incorporate the environmental aspect of sustainable development into UNCT planning and programming procedures.
- Facilitates knowledge management and collaboration across UNCT focal points and the UNCT engagement network.
- Develops, implements and evaluates assigned projects and programmes; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions.
- Researches, organizes and prepares written outputs e.g. draft background papers, analyze sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
- works closely with Divisions, Regional offices, and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) to provide Member States with support in the development of pertinent environmental policies, laws, and norms to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs at the local, national, regional, and international levels using integrated approaches. Coordinates policy development, including review and analysis of issues and trends.
- Coordinates the development and communication of strategic partnerships.
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, environmental policy/science, business administration, project planning and management, or related disciplines, is required.
- A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
- A minimum of seven years (7) of progressively responsible experience working in policy, activities related to sustainable development, programme planning, policy development and review, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation; or related area, is required.
- Experience working with the UN or other international organizations is desirable.
- Working experience on 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals is desirable.
- Experience in regional/country level environmental programming and planning is desirable.
- Experience in the use of environmental, social, and economic data and information to draft policy briefs and other reports for decision making is desirable.
- Experience working with inter-governmental and/or inter-agency organizations is desirable.
- A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
