KFS starts Interviews for Green Army Jobs opportunities
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) just announced that they are now holding interviews for 4,000 Kenyans interested in the Green Army jobs program. This effort is consistent with President William Ruto’s ambitious objective of reaching 30% forest cover by 2023.
As part of this initiative, a chosen group of young Kenyan residents will be responsible for planting a staggering 15 billion tree seedlings over the course of a decade, corresponding to the Green Army’s annual aim of 1.5 billion seedlings to be planted and cared for.
KFS has already received applications, and program participants will be interviewed in the following weeks. These persons, once enrolled, will work as dedicated nursery workers for the Ministry of Environment. Their primary responsibilities will include cultivating tree seedlings, participating in tree planting efforts, and taking part in various forestry operations within forests.
KFS has devised a thorough set of procedures to assure the survival of the Green Army seedlings, including monitoring, careful watering techniques, insect protection, and community involvement to create stewardship. They’ve also launched the Jaza Miti mobile application, which allows them to track and monitor the trees planted across the country.
In December 2022, President William Ruto announced the ambitious 15-billion-tree program, with goals of combating greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and restoring 5.1 million hectares of degraded ecosystems. KFS now has a substantial supply of seedlings in nurseries totaling 42.4 million, with 22 million ready for planting during the current rainy season. The Green Army’s primary mission is to plant over 21 million of these seedlings across the country.
