From this day, schools close for 10 weeks
According to the Ministry of Education’s term dates, students in primary, secondary, and teacher training colleges will have a 10-week holiday until courses resume early next year.
Schools will close on October 27, 2023, in preparation for national tests, and classes will resume on January 8, 2024. This will provide students a 72-day break, which is a major improvement over the traditional two-week holiday at the end of Terms I and II.
The 2024 academic year is the first resumption to a regular timetable since the pandemic in 2020. This academic year began on January 23, 2023, following the completion of the national exams in late December.
To make up for the time lost during the 2020 lockdown, the school years 2021 and 2022 contained four terms rather than the customary three.
The first term in 2024 will run 13 weeks, beginning on January 8 and ending on April 5. The April vacation period will last till April 26, 2024.
The second 14-week term will begin on April 29 and end on August 2, 2024, followed by a three-week hiatus until August 26, 2024, when the year’s final term will begin.
The nine-week session will end on October 25, 2024, to allow for national exams. There will be a three-day midterm break in both Terms I and II.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations will not be held next year, and the final 8-4-4 kids will graduate from primary school on November 2, 2023. The pupils will then take a 10-week holiday at the end of the school year.
The KCPE exams and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment for Grade 6 students are set to begin on October 30, 2023, and end on November 2, 2023. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates will begin their exams on November 3, 2023, and finish on November 24, 2023. From November 27 to December 15, 2023, the tests will be graded.
