THE GOV’T BANS ALL PRINCIPALS AND HEADTEACHERS FROM DOING THIS IMMEDIATELY.
On November 13, 2023, the Cabinet Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Education, Mr. Ezekiel Machogu, presented a significant statement to all of the school principals and headteachers in Kenya.
Because to this official decree from the government of Kenya, primary and secondary boarding schools located within the borders of the country are not allowed to raise their tuition rates in any way, shape, or form. The administration has pledged to maintain the same number of people living in institutions as they do now.
According to the government, this is something that needs to be done in order to shield Kenyan parents from the challenging economic realities in the country. It is highlighted how important it is to reduce the burden that family budgets are under.
Administrators at the educational institution have also been given a stern warning regarding carrying out this directive. Anyone who is found to have increased school fees in violation of this guideline will face legal consequences, according to the government, which emphasizes that there will be legal repercussions.
This resolute stance comes at a good moment for the country, which is eagerly anticipating the long-awaited reopening of schools in January 2019.
The provision of a forum in which citizens’ viewpoints on the aforementioned policies can be spoken by the government as an incentive for citizen participation. It would appear that the motivation for this shift was a desire to openness and diversity in the policymaking process around education.
