TSC Transfers More than 154 Teachers in Nyanza

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has replaced teachers who had earlier been transferred to different stations countrywide from the larger Nyanza region

As a result, a total of 154 primary and 32 secondary teachers who were transferred indicated various reasons for transfer including; joining spouses, overstaying in the same work place, aging of parents, self-medical issues insecurity, domestic violence, medical condition of their children.

The TSC Nyanza Regional Director Stephen Yida Ajanga indicated that the teachers applied for the transfers in the year 2021 and 2022.

The transferred teachers have already been replaced with primary school teachers being replaced during recruitment of lot 6539/JULY/2022 while secondary teachers were replaced during recruitment of lot 4000/JULY/2022.

In July of this year, the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) advertised 5,000 teaching vacancies in an effort to support the government policy of transitioning learners from primary to secondary schools at a rate of one hundred percent and to address the chronic teacher shortage.

Back on April this year, The commission reviewed rules for eligibility of teachers’ transfers.

The TSC circular dated April 4th, 2022 stated that teachers who had been employed for at least three (3) years since their initial appointment were eligible for transfers. The only exception to this rule was for teachers in the North Eastern region, who were required to serve for five years before being eligible.

In the past, in order for teachers to become eligible for a transfer, they were required to have worked at their existing stations for a period of at least five years first.

The new transfer policy takes into consideration family matters and the transfer of couples, making it possible for families to coexist together, which was not the case in the past, when married teachers were transferred to remote stations, which limited the opportunity for family members to get together to celebrate holidays.

Teachers with confirmed terminal illnesses and those aged 56 and up were excused from transfers out of their current sub county of work, as was previously the case.
