New Recommendations for TTC Entry to be Implemented
According to Ezekiel Machogu, the Education Cabinet Secretary, the government plans to implement the recommendations of the Presidential Working Group on Education Reforms regarding entry standards for Teacher Training Colleges. These recommendations were made by the Presidential Working Group on Education Reforms.
This choice was made during the official opening ceremonies of the Mandera Teachers’ Training College (MTTC) and the Mandera Technical Training Institute (MTTI) in Mandera County.
On the other hand, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been very public about how strongly it disagrees with these ideas. The Chief Executive Officer of the Teaching Service Commission, Nancy Macharia, is concerned that the Commission’s constitutional mandate would be violated if it allowed another institution, like as the Ministry, to set admission standards for teaching service.
Macharia has also noted that the recommended entry grades that were provided by the Working Group do not correlate to the standards that are currently in place for registration under the TSC framework. She emphasized the necessity of numeracy and literacy abilities in efficient classroom instruction. She went on to clarify that the duty of the TSC is to advise the national government on such problems, and that this is one of their responsibilities.
The TSC has brought attention to the fact that the Working Group disregarded the Commission’s opinion on significant concerns regarding the teaching service. It is possible that putting these suggestions into action may compromise both the constitutional aim of the Commission as well as its independence.
