Ruto names Vimal Shah Maasai Mara university chancellor.
The position of Chancellor of Maasai Mara University has been given to Vimal Shah, who was selected by President William Ruto.
The appointment was disclosed in a notification that was published in the gazette this past Friday.
The notice states, “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, appoint Vimal Shah to be the Chancellor of the Maasai Mara University,” and includes citations from the Universities Act, 2012.
As of the 7th of September in 2023, Shah will begin his term as prime minister, which will last for a total of five years. Bidco Africa is under Shah’s leadership as its chairman.
Professor Peninah Aloo-Obudho, who serves as the Vice Chancellor of the institution, has been assuming the role of acting chancellor.
Maasai Mara University was one of the public universities that was looking to fill one of seven vice chancellor positions that were made available by the Public Service Commission (PSC) in August of 2023.
A university’s chancellor is required to hand out degrees, as well as diplomas, certificates, and any other awards that the university may offer, in accordance with the University Act of 2012.
According to one provision of the statute, “The chancellor shall be the titular head of the university and shall in the name of the university confer degrees and grant diplomas,”
