TSC Discipline Action Is Taken, 23 Teachers Are Deregistered

A number of disciplinary cases have resulted in the deregistration of 23 instructors by the instructors Service Commission (TSC).

Nancy Macharia, the chief executive officer of TSC, confirmed these teachers’ guilt in a notification, although she did not state which charges they were facing.

Macharia included information in the notice, including the teacher’s name, TSC number, case number, and removal date.

The notice stated, in part, that “the commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act,” in exercise of the authority granted by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act.

According to the law, a teacher who has been removed from the register cannot be added back unless the Commission requests it.

Furthermore, it is against the law for a teacher who has been fired to work as a teacher in any kind of institution, private or public.

The declaration made clear that in order to engage in the teaching service, a person must be registered as a teacher under this Act.

“Unless an individual is registered as a teacher under this Act, they shall not engage in the teaching service.”

Additionally, the warning stated that hiring a deregistered instructor would result in legal action and a fine of at least Ksh100,000, up to two years in jail, or both.

Similar measures were used by TSC in 2022, when more than 100 teachers found guilty of various offenses were deregistered.
