Kenyan government advertises 4,000 jobs; apply now
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has lately announced that it is interviewing 4,000 Kenyans for the Green Army Program. This effort is in line with President William Ruto’s goal of reaching 30% forest cover by 2023.
Under this program, selected young Kenyans will be in charge of planting 15 billion seedlings over a ten-year period. To put it another way, the Green Army hopes to plant and nurture 1.5 billion saplings each year.
KFS stated that applications have been received and that interviews will take place in the coming weeks on an unannounced date. They made it clear that no further applications would be accepted. Once chosen, the successful candidates will be hired as nursery workers for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
These nursery employees will be essential to the national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program, doing jobs like as raising tree seedlings, planting trees, and engaging in silvicultural operations within forests, among other forestry-related responsibilities.
KFS has proposed a complete set of methods to assure the survival of the seedlings planted by the Green Army. Regular monitoring, correct irrigation, insect protection, and community engagement to encourage stewardship are examples of these strategies.
In addition, KFS has created a Jaza Miti mobile application to track the growth of trees planted throughout the country.
President William Ruto stated during the launch of the 15-billion-tree program in December 2022 that the project intends to cut greenhouse emissions, halt deforestation, and restore 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded ecosystems. According to KFS, 42.4 million seedlings are presently available in nurseries, with 22 million of them ready for planting during the current rainy season.
The Green Army’s first mission will be to plant over 21 million seedlings in various sections of the country. This ambitious program has enormous promise for Kenya’s environment and anti-deforestation efforts.
