Senior Master Promotion, Requirements, Resp., and Appo. Criteria
In secondary schools, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has established four promotional grades for Senior Masters. Senior Master IV (T- Scale 9), Senior Master III (T- Scale 10), Senior Master II (T- Scale 11), and Senior Master I (T- Scale 12) are the qualifications.
This is the entry level for secondary school institutional administrators. Teachers in this grade level offer their colleagues professional support, mentorship, direction, and counseling. Promotions are competitive and dependent on job availability.
Senior Master IV T-SCALE 9 Appointment Requirements
To be eligible, a teacher must have worked as a Secondary Teacher I T-Scale 8 for at least three years, received a satisfactory performance rating, completed relevant Training for Professional Development (TPD) modules, held a valid Teaching Certificate, met the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution, and met any other criteria set by the Commission.
T-SCALE 10 Senior Master III
This grade is reserved for institutional administrators who give professional assistance, mentoring, advice, counseling, and administrative activities. Promotion is competitive and is contingent on job opportunities.
Appointment Senior Master III T-SCALE 10 Requirements
To be eligible, a teacher must have served as a Senior Master IV T- Scale 9 for at least three years, received a satisfactory performance rating, completed relevant TPD modules, held a valid Teaching Certificate, demonstrated supervisory and mentoring abilities, met the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution, and met any additional requirements imposed by the Commission.
T-SCALE-11 Senior Master II
Professional assistance, mentorship, advice, counseling, and administrative activities are performed by teachers in this promotion grade. Promotions are competitive and subject to job availability.
Appointment Senior Master II T-SCALE-11 Requirements
A teacher must have served as a Senior Master III T-Scale 10 for at least three years, received a satisfactory performance rating, completed relevant TPD modules, held a valid Teaching Certificate, demonstrated the ability to supervise and mentor other teachers, met the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution, and met any other criteria specified by the Commission to qualify.
SCALE 12 Senior Master I
This is a promotion for institutional managers, and responsibilities include professional assistance, mentorship, coaching, counseling, and administrative duties. Promotions are competitive and dependent on job availability.
Senior Master I T- SCALE 12 Requirements for Appointment
A teacher must have served as Senior Master II or Deputy Principal III T- Scale 11 for at least three years, received a satisfactory performance rating, completed relevant TPD modules, held a valid Teaching Certificate, demonstrated supervisory and mentoring abilities, met Chapter six of the Constitution requirements, and met any other requirements specified by the Commission in order to be appointed to this grade.
Responsibilities and Duties
Senior Masters must prepare lesson plans, teach subjects, evaluate students, promote teaching innovation, foster teamwork, maintain discipline, provide counseling, ensure safety, participate in professional development, guide new teachers, manage resources, coordinate course materials, conduct research, implement policy decisions, mentor staff, oversee co-curricular activities, and maintain institutional assets.
