The MoE has released the 2024 school calendar.
The Ministry of Education has made public the academic calendar for the school years beginning in pre-primary, primary, and secondary levels, as well as colleges that produce teachers.
The first term of the school year will begin on January 8, 2024, and will last thirteen weeks, ending on April 5, 2024. Pre-primary, primary, and secondary education will be covered in this trimester. This academic year includes a three-week holiday beginning on April 8 and concluding on April 26, as well as a three-day break in the middle of the semester (from February 29 to March 3).
The second semester will last 14 weeks, beginning April 29 and finishing August 2, with a five-day break in the middle of the term from June 20 to June 23. Following that, there will be a holiday from August 5 to August 25.
The year’s last term will span nine weeks, commencing on August 26 and finishing on October 25. This is in preparation for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), both of which are scheduled for October 28 to October 31. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will be place from November 4 to November 22, 2025, with the longer December holiday lasting from October 28 to January 3, 2025.
The teacher training institutions’ first semester will begin on January 8 and run until April 5, with a vacation from April 8 to April 26. The second semester will begin on April 29 and will go until August 2, with a vacation from August 5 to August 30. The last term will span 11 weeks, starting on August 26 and finishing on November 8, with an extended holiday break starting on November 11 and lasting until January 3, 2025.
