US Gives Ksh 230 Million Grant for 4,500 Kenyan Farmers; How to Access.
Over 4,500 Kenyan farmers will benefit from a collaborative USAID-Kentaste project that was unveiled by Ambassador Meg Whitman.
Since 2014, Kentaste, a major manufacturer of coconut products in East Africa, has transformed from a modest family business into a multinational organization that works closely with Kenyan farmers.
The project’s specific objective is to increase the company’s coconut product sales within the United States, and it is supported by Ksh232 million in financing from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The move, according to a statement from the US embassy, will boost Kentaste’s output by 67% and enable them to process more than 50,000 coconuts every day.
More than 90 full-time jobs will also be made possible by the project, and at least 1500 farmers will be able to become suppliers.
The project, in accordance with Ambassador Whitman, will also enhance resource utilization across the nation, notably in the Coast and Nyanza areas.
“Through partnerships like this, we are enhancing trade, transforming lives, and combating food waste and its impacts on climate change,” said Ambassador Whitman.
Whitman continued by saying that more than 30% of the new farmers who would be enrolled in the scheme will be women.
It was observed that the program will help Kenyan farmers, particularly at this difficult time for the nation’s economy.
Anyone qualified to apply for a grant from the non-profit organization was able to fund the USAID-Kentaste collaboration.
Local farmer Abdalla Juma Mwaramunda said, “With Kentaste, I now have steady profits and better farming methods. “This collaboration is changing our community,”
