Reason for Loan Disbursement 2023 by HELB
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has not yet distributed financing to either newly enrolled students or those who are already attending higher education institutions.
HELB Chief Executive Officer Charles Ringera has told the Ministry of Education that the payment process is being continuously watched, which is especially important in light of the fact that first-year students still have until October 7th to apply for financing.
Ringera has confirmed that they are in communication with the Ministry, which is attempting to obtain the release of funds from the Treasury. He emphasized that no monetary aid has been provided to either the current students or the new pupils as of yet.
Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, who serves as the Principal Secretary for Higher Education, recently urged college students to inform authorities about educational institutions that call for a fee deposit of at least seven percent prior to enrollment. She also disclosed that the government has increased financing to support continuing students and ensure that activities will proceed without interruption.
According to Inyangala, the Vice Chancellors have asked for more funding for the next three months in order to keep operations going while they process money for first-year students. She stressed the importance of their ongoing collaboration with the Vice Chancellors in order to assist with this problem.
During their presentation before the education committee of the National Assembly to discuss the HELB (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and HELB (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which were both sponsored by Machakos Women Representative Joyce Kamene, these observations were made.
In spite of a circular issued by the Ministry that encourages higher education institutions to admit first-year students during the process of funding, members of parliament have inquired as to why students are still being denied admittance due to outstanding charges.
